Nothing is Cooler than a Cadillac
The featured domestic automobile for the 24th Annual Manchester and the Mountains Antique and Classic Car Show is the Cadillac. The first Cadillac, which came to symbolize the American Dream, was completed on October 17, 1902 (the same year that Robert Todd Lincoln’s Hildene in Manchester Village was constructed). Between 1903 and 1905, 8000 automobiles were manufactured. Henry Leland, a Vermonter born in 1843 was one of the designers of this car that would rapidly come to represent American luxury. The Cadillac won the Dewar Trophy in 1908 for its ability to have parts from one car fit another providing it was the same make and model thereby becoming the “Standard of the World”.

Nothing is Sportier than a Porsche
The featured import automobile for this year’s show is the Porsche recognized for its sportiness. The first Porsche was officially approved on June 8. 1948 in Karnten, Austria. It was designated 356 and given the license plate K-45286. The Volkswagen Beetle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, Sr. who died in 1951. His son “Ferry” had already taken over the role of designer for the Porsche at this time. The Porsche crest originated in the USA. The crest symbolizes the coat of arms for the city of Stuttgart, which was built on the site of a stud farm-hence the horse. The antlers and red-and-black stripes are part of the arms of the Kingdom of Wurttemberg. The 911 Porsche became one of the biggest sports cars in the world and is-together with the 356-the foundation for success Porsche has had so far. For most enthusiasts the 911 remains the one “true Porsche, the only one with a direct link to the 356. In 1964 this sporty automobile won the “Car of the Year” award, defeating the BMW Series 7 and the Ford Granada.
